This Arctic adventure story was originally published in more than 80 years ago and was an immediate bestseller, describing first-hand the experiences of a Czech adventurer living in the Arctic. Welzl revealed the cruel terrain and colorful tales of Eskimos, which few had encountered before he did, stories which some later claimed could not have been true. Long before Jon Krakauer did it, Jan Welzl brought American readers to the wild and wooly hinterlands, and lived to tell the tale (until he died in 1948).
