Mrs. Jordan's Profession

At the end of the 18th century Dora Jordan was the greatest comic actress the British theatre had known, adored by the public and high society alike. She became the consort of the future king, Willian IV, lived with him in domestic happiness and bore him ten children. But she died alone, in obscurity, and when a biography of King William was published in 1884, her name did not even appear. This is a recreation of the royal, political and theatrical worlds of late 18th-century England.
