Gestures: Their Origins and Distribution

In this book the authors go one step further than in Desmond Morris' book Manwatching, which defined many of our unconscious postures–-hunting, mating, territorial, ritual and so on. In gestures, they set out in map at common gestures, and to chart their variety of meanings by questioning the people who use them. A single gesture occurring in different parts of the world may be read by people in many different ways. The illustrated end page maps indicate the 40 locations sampled in the project.
