Das Reich: March of the Second SS Panzer Division Through France

An excellent read. When D-Day occurred, the 2nd SS Panzer was doing R&R in the south of France. They were immediately ordered to the front. Their travels, however, were severely hampered by the now active French Resistance. These slowing down tactics worked for awhile, until the SS showed their true colors and began executing towns people unless the resistance stopped. The executions are indicative of how evil and unfeeling some of the SS were. In one instance, they herded 250 people into a church, burned down the church and shot anyone trying to escape the flames. The label for this behavior is "ultimate repression". Sounds like the first terrorists.
